Today at the Governmental Serail, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport concluded the work of a two-day workshop for the authorities concerned with air transport, with the aim of raising the readiness of the Lebanese aviation sector and enhancing Lebanon’s position on the map of international air transport. The workshop witnessed the participation of Lebanese authorities specialized in aviation and security, along with international partners, with technical advisory support from the World Bank Group.
The meetings produced a set of decisions and practical steps aimed at addressing regulatory, technical and security gaps, as well as defining institutional priorities and responsibilities in a way that contributes to raising levels of safety and operational efficiency, and enhancing Lebanon’s air connectivity regionally and internationally.
The discussions focused mainly on supporting progress towards the resumption of direct flights between Lebanon and the United States, in parallel with working to meet the requirements and standards related to the safety, security and operation of the aviation sector. The discussions also touched on the readiness for the evaluation paths and standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA), in addition to governance, operation and security files.
In the same context, the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Fayez Rasamny, confirmed that the conclusion of the workshop represents the start of the actual implementation phase, stressing that restoring direct air connectivity with the United States falls within a broader vision to develop the sector and enhance international confidence in it.
The workshop outcomes are scheduled to be translated into practical steps and periodic follow-up meetings will be held in coordination between the concerned authorities and international partners, coinciding with the path of institutional development and the modernization program of Rafic Hariri International Airport.
These efforts fall within a strategic path pursued by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to develop the air transport sector, raise the level of technical, security and operational readiness in line with international standards and support the expansion of Lebanon’s air connectivity network.
