The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth claimed that the UAE refrained from denying information about a warning sent by its president, Mohammed bin Zayed, to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu regarding an operation that was being planned by the head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, the martyr Yahya Sinwar, before October 7, 2023.
The newspaper reported that the UAE was asked to deny this information, but Abu Dhabi contented itself with providing diplomatic responses, to avoid involvement in internal Israeli disputes.
The newspaper confirmed that, “If the UAE had not already warned Netanyahu, it would have completely denied the matter.”
These data come after an extensive investigation published by the Israeli newspaper “Haaretz”, which revealed that Bin Zayed made a phone call to Netanyahu in the last days of September 2023, which lasted 45 minutes, during which he informed him that Sinwar was preparing for an “important event,” warning of its repercussions on the region and the “Abraham Accords.”
According to the Haaretz investigation, based on dozens of sources, records, documents and internal correspondence, Bin Zayed proposed finding an economic solution for the Gaza Strip and working to calm the situation in the West Bank.
However, Netanyahu received the warning calmly and ruled out the proposal, considering that available estimates indicate that “Hamas intends to carry out action in the West Bank.”
The investigation indicated that Bin Zayed shared the details of the call with the head of the CIA, William Burns, expressing his surprise at Netanyahu’s reserved response, while an advisor to the Emirati president conveyed his hope that Netanyahu would deal seriously with the message before the operation took place.
