Fenerbahce Football Club witnessed conflict over the fate of its coach, Ismail Kartal, after he announced his resignation following a 1-1 draw with Roma in the Champions League, before club president Aziz Yildirim confirmed that he would remain in his position minutes later.
Kartal said during the press conference that he would leave “and never return,” explaining that he had made his decision “to make way for the club.”
But Yildirim announced that the coach would continue, revealing that a fan had thrown a bottle at his head during the match, and that he had complained about the pressure he was under.
The club president added that he spoke with Kartal and asked him to continue, saying: “There is no need for him to say explicitly that he will continue… We are one family.”
