Multiple explosions sounded on Wednesday on Qeshm Island and the city of Sirik in Hormozgan Province, southern Iran, amid reports of coastal areas being targeted with projectiles, according to what Iranian media reported.
The sources stated that several areas in Sirik were targeted by projectiles, while there were reports of explosions in the coastal areas of Sirik and Qeshm, in addition to coastal areas of Minab Governorate.
For its part, the Hormozgan Governor’s Office reported that the sounds of explosions heard in Qeshm were coming from the sea, without providing further details.
These developments come in light of the escalation of tension between Washington and Tehran in the Strait of Hormuz region, after the US military recently announced the targeting of a number of Iranian oil tankers, stressing that the strikes came in response to attempts by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to target American warships.
The Strait of Hormuz has become one of the most prominent areas of tension between the United States and Iran, amid disturbances in shipping traffic and mutual threats in this strategic sea lane.
