Atletico is surprised… and Liverpool responds

The match started at a fast pace, and the two teams exchanged offensive attempts, before Llorente succeeded in giving Atletico the lead after a pass from Julián Alvarez, after which he was alone in the goal and put the ball over goalkeeper Alisson Becker.

Liverpool tried to return to the match, and intensified its pressure on Jan Oblak’s goal until Suboslaj was able to score an equalizer 5 minutes before the end of the first half.

Liverpool entered the second half with greater offensive pressure, and it only took 5 minutes to turn the result around.

McAllister fired a powerful shot from outside the penalty area in the 50th minute, but Oblak was unable to stop it, putting the hosts ahead.

Atletico tried to get back in the score during the remaining minutes, but Liverpool’s defense and goalkeeper Alisson maintained the lead.

Jeremy Frimpong scored a third goal for Liverpool in the 89th minute, but the referee ruled it out for offside, so the match ended with the English team winning 2-1.

Liverpool will visit Austria’s LASK Linz in the next round, while Atletico Madrid will host Manchester United in an anticipated confrontation.
