The US military announced that it had carried out a strike targeting a speedboat in the Caribbean Sea, killing 3 people on board.
The US Southern Command said, in a post on the “X” platform, that it carried out a strike against a speedboat that was moving on one of the known drug smuggling routes in the Caribbean Sea.
The command explained that it relied on what it described as “confirmed intelligence information” indicating that the boat was involved in drug smuggling operations, without revealing additional details.
She added that the strike resulted in the death of 3 people on board the boat, and said that they were linked to drug smuggling activities.
In the background of the operation, the administration of US President Donald Trump says that the ships targeted by US forces since September 2025 were being used to transport narcotic substances.
According to the data received, US strikes in the Caribbean Sea and the eastern Pacific Ocean since September 2025 have resulted in the deaths of more than 220 people.
Human Rights organizations and independent experts have criticized these operations, with Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and independent experts at the United Nations describing some strikes as extrajudicial killings.
The American Civil Liberties Union also criticized the justifications provided by the US administration regarding the targeted persons.
The latest operation comes as part of a series of strikes carried out by US forces against boats and ships that Washington says are linked to drug smuggling operations in the Caribbean Sea and the eastern Pacific Ocean.
