Representative Nadim Gemayel attacked the renewal of the residency of the former Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Mohamed Reza Shibani, considering that the step goes beyond being an administrative decision and constitutes, as he described it, “a dangerous retreat from a sovereign decision, a blow to the state’s prestige, and a coup against the speech of the oath.”
Gemayel said in a post on the “X” platform: “If the decisions to expel ambassadors are subject to reversal and compromise, how will the state be able to make the most difficult decisions: restricting weapons to the state, disarming Hezbollah, and holding accountable those who issued passports to members and officers of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard?”
He added: “There is no state by half-decisions, and there is no sovereignty by compromises,” considering that “what happened today is a farce that strikes the state’s prestige and undermines the concept of sovereignty.”
