The secret of the red and yellow dots on car tires.. What do they mean?

Drivers may notice small red or yellow dots on new tires. These marks are not decorative and do not indicate a defect or the date of manufacture of the tire, but rather help technicians in the installation and balancing process.

The yellow dot usually indicates the lightest part of the tire, so it is often aligned with the air valve, which is one of the heaviest parts of the wheel, in order to improve balance and reduce the need to add counterweights.

The red dot indicates the location of the largest radial difference in the tire during rotation, and, when the appropriate mark is present, is aligned with the lowest point of the wheel, which helps achieve smoother rotation and reduced vibrations.

If there are both red and yellow dots, priority is usually given to the red dot during installation, because it is related to the radial difference of the tire.

Tire balancing is of great importance. Small differences in weight distribution and structure can cause vibrations at high speeds, lead to uneven tire wear and stress on some suspension components.

On the other hand, the absence of these points does not mean that the tire is defective or of lower quality, as they are signs intended mainly for technicians. The most important thing is to ensure that the tires are installed and balanced correctly to ensure a smoother ride and preserve the life of the tire.
