The National Litani River Authority announced an emergency malfunction on the main line of the Sidon-Jezzine irrigation project, in the middle of the main road within the town of Lebaa, which led to a large amount of water leaking and forming a hole in the middle of the road.

The authority explained, in a statement, that as a result of the malfunction, it will be forced to cut off irrigation water starting this afternoon, Monday, August 17, 2026, for a period of no less than 4 days, on the northeastern side of the project, starting from pressure breaker point No. 8, located between the towns of Kafr Falos and Marah Al-Habas.

She indicated that the technical teams in the Libaa Irrigation Department will begin, tomorrow morning, Tuesday, August 18, excavation and inspection work on the line to determine the nature and extent of the fault, in preparation for carrying out the necessary maintenance work, under the supervision of the Investment and Maintenance Department of the National Litani River Authority.

She pointed out that coordination had been made with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport – Regional Directorate in the South, in addition to the President of the Union of Jezzine Municipalities and the Municipality of Lebaa, to keep up with maintenance work and take the necessary measures to ensure traffic and public safety in the vicinity of the works.

The Authority asked drivers and citizens to be careful and careful while passing near the site of the crashes and excavations, and to adhere to the instructions and signs posted in order to preserve their safety and the safety of the workers.

The irrigation water outage will include the towns and regions of Kfarfalous, Marah Al-Habas, Lebaa, Karkha, Baqsta, Shawalik, Ain Al-Mir in part, Wadi Baanqudin, Kefraya, Kfarjara, Al-Salihiya, Al-Qarya (Al-Qarqashiya), Majdelyoun and Abra.

The Authority called on subscribers and farmers in the affected areas to irrigate their crops and take the necessary precautions to overcome the outage period, stressing that water supply will resume as soon as maintenance work is completed and the line is returned to service.

The Sidon-Jezzine Irrigation Project is responsible for providing irrigation water for a number of towns and agricultural areas within its scope, while the National Litani River Authority is responsible for operating the project and maintaining its lines and facilities.

The utility’s technical teams intervene when malfunctions are recorded in the irrigation network, inspect the damaged lines and carry out maintenance work, before pumping water back to the beneficiary areas after the repairs are completed.

During the current holiday, the authority has set a break period of no less than 4 days, with excavation and excavation work beginning on the morning of Tuesday, August 18, while the affected areas include 14 towns and regions, including Ain al-Mir, which will be partially affected.
