Efforts are accelerating today to avoid the vacuum that could be left by the end of the missions of UNIFIL forces in southern Lebanon, with the continued Israeli escalation. The President of the Republic is intensifying his contacts and consultations in this context, and will seize the opportunity of his visit to the Vatican to discuss this issue with Pope Leo XIV and the Italian government.
The President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, will head to Rome at the end of the week, on a visit of political and diplomatic importance, in light of the special interest that Pope Leo XIV pays to Lebanon.

In the information, President Aoun is meeting in Italy with the President of the Italian Republic and the Prime Minister, as part of the ongoing talks to prepare for the phase after the end of the UNIFIL mission in southern Lebanon, especially since Italy is currently assuming leadership of the international force.
Italy had expressed, in a joint statement with France, its desire to keep its forces in Lebanon after the deadline for the UNIFIL mission expired, which adds additional importance to the meetings that President Aoun will hold in Rome.
