“Lebanon Debate”
Today, Sunday, the city of Jounieh witnessed a tragic incident in which part of a commercial store collapsed, leading to the death of a Syrian worker, while the Civil Defense and Lebanese Red Cross teams were mobilized to conduct comprehensive surveys and ensure that there were no other people under the rubble.
Lebanon Debate information reported that part of the store collapsed suddenly, which required the intervention of rescue teams who began search and exploration operations at the site amid security and regulatory measures to secure the surroundings of the accident.
According to preliminary data, the collapse resulted in the death of a Syrian worker who was present inside the site at the time of the accident, while the Civil Defense and Red Cross teams continued field survey work to verify the final toll and ensure that there were no other stranded or injured people.
The mayor of Jounieh came to the site of the accident to inspect the damage and review the progress of the rescue and detection operations carried out by the competent agencies, in coordination with the security forces and concerned authorities.
The accident sparked a state of anxiety in the region, especially as technical inspection work continues to determine the causes of the collapse and the circumstances that led to its occurrence, awaiting the issuance of official reports that will precisely determine its circumstances.
Lebanese regions witness from time to time incidents of partial or complete collapse in commercial and residential buildings and facilities, as a result of multiple factors ranging from structural obsolescence, poor maintenance, and damage resulting from climatic conditions or restoration and construction work.
The competent authorities usually stress the necessity of adhering to public safety procedures and conducting periodic engineering inspections of buildings and facilities, in order to avoid the occurrence of similar accidents that may lead to human and material losses.

Pending the completion of survey and inspection operations at the collapse site, attention remains on the results of the technical investigations that will determine the direct causes of the accident and whether there are responsibilities or violations that require legal prosecution.
