Microsoft unveiled its new Surface Laptop Ultra, which it describes as the most powerful device in the Surface series that it has developed so far, as it targets professional users and content creators with a design that directly competes with Apple’s MacBook Pro devices.

The new computer comes with a 15-inch screen that uses MiniLED Ultra technology, with an HDR brightness of up to 2000 nits, in addition to a touchpad that is considered the largest in the history of Surface devices, in addition to a wide range of ports that include USB-A, USB-C, an HDMI port, and a card reader.

The device is based on the new “RTX Spark” chip from NVIDIA, which is a chip that combines graphics capabilities and artificial intelligence in one chip. The chip includes 6144 Blackwell graphics cores and 20 Arm processing cores, with superior artificial intelligence capability (up to one petaflop), according to what Nvidia said.

Microsoft said that the graphics performance of the device is close to the RTX 5070 card intended for laptops, with power consumption ranging from very low levels to 80 watts, which gives the device a balance between performance and efficiency.

Andrew Hill, Vice President of the Surface Sector at Microsoft, explained that the new device is “the most powerful product the company has made to date,” in a new attempt to attract professional users after previous experiments such as the Surface Book and Surface Laptop studio, which faced criticism related to their large size or high prices.

The Surface Laptop Ultra weighs less than 2 kg, and comes in color options including black and dark silver, in a clear direction to emulate the professional character that MacBook Pro devices are famous for. (aitnews)
