Scientists decipher a mysterious message coming from space... What is its source?

A report published by the British newspaper “The Independent” said that this mysterious space code or message that has always puzzled scientists is “long-range transient radio phenomena,” which are strong and regular radio waves and

According to the report, researchers and scientists now believe that they have identified its source, which is a small, dense star called a white dwarf, which attracts material from its larger, less dense companion star. Researchers believe that these materials spiral toward it, producing these waves.

“For the first time, we have identified the source of these signals, confirming that they come from a catastrophic variable star, or a white dwarf star that is accumulating matter,” said Kofi Rose, a doctoral student at the University of Sydney who led the discovery.

He added: “Long-range radio transient phenomena have puzzled astronomers for years. We have only found about a dozen phenomena, and their origins remain mysterious. Now, we have been able to prove that the source of one of these transient phenomena is a white dwarf that is actively pulling matter from a companion star.”

The results of this study were published in a new research paper entitled “Periodic emission of radio waves and X-rays from a binary system of accreting white dwarfs,” in the journal “Nature Astronomy.” (Arabic)
