On the occasion of World Password Day 2026, Google published on its official blog a new report that highlights a set of tools and security updates aimed at enhancing the protection of users’ digital accounts.

This comes at a time when cyber threats are increasing and attacks are increasingly relying on artificial intelligence technologies.

The report stated that the primary goal of this initiative is to make digital security simpler and more automatic, so that the user does not feel that protecting his accounts is an additional burden, but rather a natural part of the daily use experience.
Google continues its push toward a future free of traditional passwords, by expanding the use of passkeys, which are a more secure alternative to traditional passwords and even two-factor verification codes.

This technology relies on logging in using a fingerprint, facial recognition, or device code, instead of entering a password that can be stolen or guessed.

Google confirms that passkeys are more resistant to phishing and hacking attacks, because they are linked to the device itself and cannot be reused.

Enhance everyday security
Among the recommendations presented by Google, it called on users to activate 2-Step Verification, as an additional layer of protection that prevents unauthorized access even if the password is leaked.

Google also highlighted the Recovery Contacts feature, which allows the user to choose trusted people to help recover the account when access to it is lost, without giving them any direct powers over the data.

Google also pointed to the feature of signing in using a Google account, which allows the user to access applications and websites without the need to create new passwords each time, which reduces the risk of reusing the same password across several services.

In the same context, the password manager application allows you to automatically generate strong passwords, save them, and sync them between devices, which reduces human errors, which are one of the main causes of hacks.

Future vision
Google confirmed that the general trend in the technical industry is moving towards reducing reliance on passwords completely, in light of the increase in attacks based on data theft and electronic phishing, which have become more complex with the development of artificial intelligence tools.

The company believes that the combination of passkeys, multiple authentication, and smart identity management systems represents an essential step towards a more secure and stable digital environment. (Erm News)
