“Lebanon Debate”
The volatile spring weather in Lebanon will continue in the coming days, with noticeable activity in wind speeds and a drop in temperatures below their seasonal averages in some areas, amid expectations of dense fog forming on the highlands and the possibility of scattered light rain, especially in the northern and interior regions.
In this context, Mona Omar, head of the Estimates Branch at the Meteorological Authority, explained in an interview with “Lebanon Debate” that “today’s weather, Wednesday, will be partly cloudy to partly cloudy, with temperatures falling below their seasonal rates, in conjunction with a high percentage of humidity that leads to the formation of dense fog at times on the hills.”
She pointed out that “the winds are active today, reaching speeds of about 50 km/h, while sometimes touching the limit of 65 km/h in the north of the country.”
As for Thursday, she said, “The weather will be partly cloudy to cloudy at times with medium and high clouds, with temperatures rising to their seasonal levels, with winds expected to be remarkably active, touching the limits of 80 km/h, especially in northern Lebanon.”
Omar added, “The clouds are thickening as of Thursday afternoon, with temperatures dropping and the weather preparing for scattered light rain, especially in the northern and interior regions.”
She pointed out that “Friday will be partly cloudy with a new drop in temperatures below their seasonal rates, while clouds will thicken in the afternoon, especially in the north of the country, with the possibility of light rain and active winds, in addition to fog forming on the highlands.”
As for Saturday, it was expected that “the weather will be partly cloudy with fog in the highlands, and with no significant change in temperatures on the coast, while they will rise slightly in the mountains and inland.”
Regarding the expected temperatures, she indicated that “the averages in Beirut will be between 18 and 27 degrees, in Tripoli they will be between 15 and 25 degrees, while in Zahle they will range between 13 and 27 degrees.”
She concluded by explaining that “surface winds are generally active west to southwesterly, and their speed ranges between 15 and 50 km/h, sometimes touching the limit of 65 km/h in the north of the country.”
