According to what was reported by the Spanish newspaper Marca, Barcelona’s legal departments began reviewing the content of Florentino’s statements, while examining possible measures in response to what the club described as “accusations” issued by the Real Madrid president.
Florentino had said at the conference that the “Negrira case” represents the largest corruption scandal in the history of Spanish football, considering that it is unacceptable for referees associated with that stage to continue managing league matches. He also announced that Real Madrid has prepared a 600-page file that it intends to send to the European Football Association (UEFA).
The Real Madrid president was not satisfied with that, but went further when he confirmed that Barcelona was the biggest beneficiary of arbitration, saying that his team could have achieved 14 league titles instead of the current number, had it not been for what he considered the “theft” it was exposed to. He added that Real Madrid also prepared a record containing 18 points that he believes were stolen from him this season.
On the other hand, Barcelona issued a brief statement in which it confirmed that its legal department is carefully studying Florentino Perez’s statements, and that its content is currently being evaluated and the next steps are being determined, provided that the club’s position and decisions will be announced in due course.
Thus, it seems that the tension between Real Madrid and Barcelona has moved from the stadium to the legal front, in a new chapter that is likely to escalate further in the coming days.
