US Treasury Secretary Scott Besent arrived in South Korea on Wednesday to hold trade talks with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng before a summit to be held later this week in Beijing between the leaders of the world’s two largest economies.
The talks are likely to address a range of issues in preparation for the meeting scheduled to be held on Thursday and Friday between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing.
News 1 reported yesterday, Tuesday, citing an official at Incheon Airport, that the discussions are scheduled to take place in a reception room at the airport.
American officials said that it is expected that the United States and China will agree at the Beijing summit on mechanisms to facilitate mutual trade and investment, and that China will announce purchases that include Boeing aircraft and American agricultural and energy products.
Beijing is seeking the United States to ease restrictions on exports of advanced semiconductors, and has raised concerns about a draft law aimed at preventing the entry of critical chip-making equipment into China.
