In an interview on the “315 Meetings” program, Bassam Tlais, head of the Federation of Land Transport Syndicates and Federations, explained the reality of service pricing in Lebanon in light of the absence of effective oversight by the state, and the resulting chaos in setting the tariff between one region and another.

He pointed out that this reality had a negative impact on citizens, who now face additional living burdens as a result of the high cost of daily transportation.

Tlais also touched on the Transport Union’s position on disrupting the implementation of the 12 million liras decision, which would support the land transport sector and reduce the burden on drivers. He stressed that delaying the implementation of this decision exacerbates the existing crisis within the sector and increases the pressure on its workers.

In another context, Tlais discussed the repercussions of restricting the entry of non-Syrian goods trucks into Syrian territory, noting that this measure directly affected the movement of commercial exchange and land transport. He explained that this restriction led to a decline in economic activity and an increase in the cost of transportation between the two countries.

Tlais stressed the importance of working to reactivate transport agreements with the Syrian side to ensure the smooth movement of goods, calling for strengthening bilateral coordination to address the obstacles facing the land transport sector.

Tlais concluded by emphasizing that developing this sector requires practical and quick solutions that preserve the interests of drivers and citizens alike.
