In a continuing field escalation on the southern front, the Lebanese army announced the martyrdom of a soldier and his brother as a result of an Israeli raid that targeted them in the town of Khirbet Selm – Bint Jbeil District, while they were traveling on a motorcycle from the military duty station to his home in the town of Al-Sawwanah.
The Lebanon Debate correspondent reported that the targeting was carried out by an Israeli drone, which led to the fall of the soldier and his brother at the site of the raid, in a new incident that reflects the expansion of the targeting areas affecting the southern regions.
This development comes in the context of a security day full of raids and escalation, as large areas of southern Lebanon witnessed a series of air strikes, artillery shelling, and sweeping operations, affecting several towns, including Burj Qalawayh, Tairdaba, Bint Jbeil, Qabrikha, Kafra, Wadi al-Hujair and Ghandouriya, in addition to the bombing of homes in Shamaa and Naqoura, and damage to the infrastructure and electricity networks in the town of Hanin.
These developments were also accompanied by cross-border violations, represented by the launching of a rocket shell towards the Avivim settlement in northern Israel, and the interception of a drone before it entered the airspace, which led to the activation of sirens, an indication of escalating tension on both sides of the border.
In parallel with the field escalation, Israel intensified its military measures and warnings in the north, amid reports of increasing challenges facing its forces in the field, especially in light of the use of drones and limited operations.
This scene also comes after the huge bombing in the Qantara area, which left ground waves recorded in various Lebanese regions, in one of the largest recent military operations, which reflects an unprecedented level of escalation.
In light of these facts, the southern front remains open to the possibility of escalation, in light of the continuation of raids and the exchange of field messages, and the absence of any indications of an imminent calm.
