Chelsea announced on Wednesday the dismissal of its coach, Liam Rossignor, after a short period not exceeding four months since he took over the job from Enzo Maresca last January. This decision came as a result of the team’s deteriorating results and its decline to seventh place, which raised major concerns about its chances of qualifying for European competitions.
The English coach was unable to continue in his position, despite the long contract he had with the club for six and a half years. The team suffered seven defeats in the last eight matches it played in various tournaments. The painful defeat that the team suffered against Brighton by three clean goals at the Amex Stadium on Tuesday was the point that won the cup, as it was considered the team’s worst performance this season.
Currently, Callum McFarlane, coach of the Under-21 team, will take charge of the first team on an interim basis until the end of the season. He will begin his duties leading the team in the upcoming match against Leeds United in the FA Cup semi-final next Sunday.
