The German Football Association strongly denounced the racist insults directed at Marie-Louise Etta, the technical director of Union Berlin, on social media platforms, after her first appearance in the German League, which is considered a historic event.
In a statement to T-Online, Celia Šašić, Vice President of the Federation, described these comments as “unacceptable,” stressing that these insults do not only target an individual, but rather affect the essence of sporting values such as respect, equality, and fairness.
It is noteworthy that Etta made history last Saturday, after she became the first woman to lead a men’s team in one of the major European leagues, during the match that her team lost to Wolfsburg with a score of 1-2.
The Federation praised the response of the Union Berlin Club, which directly addressed some offensive comments, stressing that it has strong mechanisms to monitor violations and inform the relevant authorities, while emphasizing its commitment to the “zero tolerance” policy towards any form of racism or discrimination.
