The Italian League received another blow with confirmation of the reduction in the number of places in the European championships for next season.
“Calcio” was content to represent only four clubs in the Champions League, in addition to two teams in the European League, and a single seat in the European Conference League.
This development came after all Italian teams left the current European competitions, as Bologna left the European League at the hands of Aston Villa, while Fiorentina exited the European Conference League by losing to Crystal Palace.
As a result of this collective exit, Italy’s balance in the “European Coefficient” classification froze, which prevented it from obtaining additional seats in the Champions League, so that its share remained limited to only four teams in the 2026-2027 edition.
According to the established system, the fifth and sixth places in the league will qualify for the Europa League, in addition to the winner of the Italian Cup, while only one team will participate in the European Conference League, starting from the preliminary rounds.
On the other hand, the competition is still fierce for the cup seat, with Inter Milan, Atalanta, Como and Lazio reaching the semi-finals, which increases the difficulty of continental qualification calculations in the final rounds of the season.
