A tanker was targeted by a projectile in Hormuz, and the Sultanate of Oman intervened to evacuate its crew

The Omani authorities reported, today, Tuesday, that a medical evacuation was carried out for a number of crew members of the Panama-flagged oil tanker “On Peace,” after it was attacked by a projectile of unknown origin while crossing the Strait of Hormuz near the coast of the Sultanate.

According to Reuters, the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that the attack resulted in the injury of 12 crew members, the majority of whom were of Indian nationality. The Ministry explained that the tanker had 19 sailors on board, including 17 Indians, noting that 11 of the injured are currently receiving treatment in the Omani city of Khasab.

In the same context, New Delhi expressed its appreciation for the Omani efforts to evacuate the injured and provide them with the necessary medical care, reiterating its condemnation of the attack and calling for an end to all attacks targeting maritime traffic in the region.

So far, no party has claimed responsibility for launching the projectile, nor has it issued precise details about the extent of the material damage to the tanker or the extent of its ability to continue its journey.

This incident comes to intensify concerns regarding the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, which is a vital strategic artery for global energy trade, which places the targeting of commercial ships in the region under the microscope of extensive international monitoring.
