The British Maritime Trade Operations Authority (UKMTO) announced, early on Sunday morning, that the ship was hit by an unidentified projectile, in an incident that added more concern to the turbulent navigation scene in this strategic corridor.
Data published by the authority on its website showed that the accident occurred in the “Omani route” from the Strait of Hormuz, near “Al Khail” Island and adjacent to “Musandam” Island, which is a small island belonging to the Omani Governorate of Musandam, to which several islands in the region belong.
The nature of the ship or the party that owns it has not yet been made clear, nor is there any information available about its cargo or the party that carried out the attack.
Also, no immediate data was released about the condition of the crew members or the extent of the material losses sustained by the ship, nor about the extent of the potential environmental impact of the accident, in light of the limited information available.
