Former Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt warned of the growth of what he described as “theorizing about defeat and surrender” under the slogan of arms exclusivity, considering that this discourse has begun to spread within Lebanon.
Jumblatt said in a post on the “X” platform: “It seems that the theory of defeat and surrender under the slogan of exclusivity of weapons has begun to spread among our ranks through the newlyweds,” adding: “It seems that mentioning the truce is forbidden after parts of this country adopted the framework paper that is not based on any legal document.”
Jumblatt’s positions come in light of the continuing political debate in Lebanon over the arms issue, and the path of understandings related to the situation in the south, at a time when the positions of the political forces differ regarding the mechanisms for dealing with the next stage.
