FIFA suspends Paredes for 10 matches and fines Argentina

The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced the imposition of harsh sanctions against the backdrop of the events that followed the 2026 World Cup final in New Jersey, which the Argentine national team lost to Spain 1-0 on July 19.

The most prominent penalties included midfielder Leandro Paredes being suspended for 10 international matches and a fine of $90,000, and defender Nahuel Molina being suspended for seven matches and a similar fine, in addition to the suspension of Thiago Almada and the Spaniard “Gavi” for one match and a fine of $30,000 each.

The Argentine Football Association was also fined $321,000 for violating the rules of discipline, team misconduct, and crowd chants, with the Argentine Football Association announcing its intention to appeal these decisions.
