US President Donald Trump announced the suspension of imposing 50 percent customs duties on some Canadian imports for three days, after the United States and Canada reached a last-minute agreement.
The new duties were scheduled to take effect on Wednesday and, according to the Associated Press, include Canadian imports worth about $20 billion.
Trump said in a post on social media that the decision to suspend came after the two countries reached an agreement, subject to the completion of official procedures and documents.
The agreement came after emergency negotiations between Washington and Ottawa, hours before the new fees were to be implemented.
The details of the agreement or the concessions made by the two sides have not yet become clear, while the suspension of fees remains in effect for three days until the completion of official procedures.
