The spread of dangerous spyware on Android... and experts warn

Experts have warned Android users of a new spy app called DragonDoll targeting their phones.

Android users in more than 26 countries, including Russia, have been exposed to attacks by the new DragonDoll spyware, according to what was reported by the Russian “Novosti” agency.

“DragonDoll gives hackers almost complete control over the victim’s device, stealing data, including messaging app conversations,” the company said in a statement.

The agency explained that the infection occurs through a fake website that mimics the official page of the Chrome browser, where the user is asked to “update” the browser, and then installs the malicious program on his device.

Once installed, hackers can control the compromised device: they can turn the screen on and off, record taps, take screenshots, read messages, and intercept passwords and PINs through fake interface windows. The program can also read lists of chats and contacts in the Telegram, WhatsApp, and Viber applications, and intercept the content of pop-up notifications. The collected data is encrypted and sent to the scammers’ server. (Russia Today)
