
Finance Minister Yassin Jaber chaired a joint work meeting to develop the work of the customs sector, update it, control smuggling, and raise the level of revenues in it.
During the meeting, a detailed display was made by the director of the CMA Charlie Druze station, the operating company of the container station in the Beirut and Tripoli port for the workflow mechanism after the installation of modern scanners that were recently submitted and able to secure a superior speed in tracking and detecting the containers coming to the two banners and through them and in clearance operations.
The meeting was attended by Minister Jaber, its adviser to the former Minister, Brigadier Abdel Muttalib Al -Hinnawi, President of the Supreme Council of Customs, Rima Makki, members of Grassa Azzi, Wissam Al -Ghosh, Director General of Customs, Raymond Khoury, Director General of Beirut Port of Omar Aitani, Director General of Transport and head of the Tripoli Port Authority Ahmed Tamer, and the leader of the Beirut Port Security Authority, Brigadier Albert Shabib and head of the Customs Authority, Beirut Ibrahim, And the head of the Customs Customs Port of Beirut, Colonel Ali Al -Hajj, and the expert on artificial intelligence affairs, Abbas Taher and the lawyer Rahaf Kansu. After the meeting, Minister Jaber made a statement, in which he said: Squares for Beirut Port, in order to coordinate between everyone, given that the scanners traffic spaces must be linked to the automated center system in customs that we update, and we expect that the new equipment will arrive at the end of October, and there will be a unified coordination and nets for all departments that we are working to establish to facilitate the deadline for clearing the goods, as we work to have a company that runs the pre -system at each import process It should get prior registration before you charge the goods. ” He added: “These measures that we carry out are aimed at controlling the customs process and organizing them within the framework of a real reform work, and not only by changing some employees from here and there.
Things are on the right track, and I hope from now to late October and the beginning of November to see practical steps in restructuring Lebanese customs.
Jaber was asked: What is the difference that this update will make? He replied: “When we make all these reforms that will change their reality, for example, the absorbing day reaches the port of Beirut without knowing its contents, what will happen to the obligation of every understanding charged from the outside to pass through the scanners without exception or selectivity, and there will be a system to analyze what is inside it away from the intervention of the human element that may occur margins of error, the program of artificial intelligence analyzes the images that come from within the scanners.”
He added: “With the speed of clearance, we will create a unified window in the relevant ministries such as health, agriculture, economy, trade, etc., where transactions are sent to all concerned at the same time. It is a reform process. We hope that we will finish from it before the end of this year. In the day, the user has the ability to detect on about sixty -hour. It is expected in the process of controlling customs evasion, Jaber said: “We hope that we can seize it significantly and with all these procedures there will be a big difference, and the control of customs smuggling will reflect positively on the financial imports of the state.”
