A sensation caused by a statement by the US special envoy to Syria, Tom Barak, when he talked about the strategic goals of the administration of US President Donald Trump in the region, the position on the Gaza war, and the Israeli occupation.
Barak, in an interview with the media Hadley Gamble, broadcast by several news platforms, spoke explicitly that the idea of peace in the region is merely an illusion that will not be achieved.
The 5 most prominent points, Barak talked about
Barak said that Donald Trump’s policy in the Middle East is based on not losing more American lives, not engaging in controlling the countries of the region or imposing failed external management methods.
He explained that the current American administration depends on cooperation with the region’s neighbors in specific files such as fighting terrorism, without direct intervention in the affairs of other countries, with the exception of Israel, which is a strategic ally with a special value for the United States.
Tom Barak described the talk about “peace” in the region as just an illusion, stressing that the conflict is not about the land alone, but rather to the issue of legitimacy and domination. He pointed out that the various parties are fighting to preserve their identity and control, and that any peaceful solution does not focus on achieving economic and social prosperity will not be effective.
He explained that the party’s disarmament is directly linked to the suspension of Iranian financial support, and that any attempt to isolate it by force will lead to chaos in Lebanon.
It is not excluded by a new blow to Iran, especially since Brak called for “beheading the snake”, in a direct reference to Iran, which he sees is funding and supporting the party, saying that this is the only way to stop Tehran’s supplies to its allies, claiming that Tehran finances the party 60 million dollars per month.
He said, “The Iranian people are amazing, intellectuals, thinkers, civilized. I do not want to see them suffering from any harm.”
It was remarkable in Barak’s talk about Hizbul, his highlighting the lack of participation of the American forces in any possible battle, whether against the party, or against the Ansar Allah movement, “the Houthis”, and its contentment with logistical support.
Barak explained that the United States is working to provide intelligence support and security coordination with Arab countries, adding that American policy focuses on financial and political pressure on the bodies supporting these groups, while respecting the sovereignty of Arab countries and their ability to make their decisions.
He added that this strategy allows America to achieve its security goals without engaging in long -term wars, noting that “Israel will remain the force capable of direct military response when needed, while Washington’s role is limited to strategic and information support.”
A threat to Lebanon
Barak explained that Lebanon suffers from an acute financial and political crisis, which includes a bankrupt central bank and a banking system with a huge financial gap, in addition to the weak basic services. Barak also said that the Lebanese government is unable to implement American plans, and that any additional intervention will not be effective without a strong local will.
He pointed out that the United States provided a clear “action plan”, but it was not implemented, stressing that the solution depends on Lebanon’s response itself.
He also mentioned that any additional American support will be conditional on the ability to implement the required reforms, with a focus on controlling Hizbullah and preventing Iranian financing flow.
