For the first time in years … the Syrian flag was raised on the embassy building in Washington

On Friday evening, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al -Shaibani raised his country’s knowledge at the Syrian embassy headquarters in the American capital, Washington.

The Syrian News Agency, SANA, reported that the ceremony was held in the presence of a number of diplomats and members of the Syrian community, in a move that observers considered an indication of a new openness in relations between Damascus and Washington, and an implicit recognition of the new Syrian government.
This step comes after a series of meetings conducted by Minister Al -Shaibani with American officials and parliamentarians, which dealt with the lifting of the sanctions imposed on Syria and discussing the prospects for future cooperation between the two countries.
In a brief statement after the ceremony, Al -Shaibani said: “This is a historic moment that expresses every Syrian who sacrificed for it, and at this moment we cannot forget the martyr.
He also wrote in a tweet on the “X” platform: “After decades of absence, today the flag of the Syrian Arab Republic is raised high over our embassy in Washington … with the feelings of pride and pride, represented a people who held out, and a homeland that has not been broken … Syria returns.”
