Israeli President Isaac Herzog welcomed the memorandum of understanding signed by Israel and Lebanon on Friday, describing it as potentially forming a “cornerstone” for achieving sustainable peace between the two countries.

During an official visit to Romania, Herzog said that Israel, like Romania, is a country that seeks peace and wants to live in peace with all its neighbors, far from threats of violence.

He added: “We seek to achieve peace with Lebanon, a peace free of Iranian blackmail, and I welcome the memorandum of understanding signed on Friday between Israel and Lebanon, which could form the cornerstone of such peace.”

The Israeli President called on the European Union and the international community to support this step and help Lebanon restore its economy and stability, while at the same time emphasizing support for Israel’s security.

He also urged those in Europe to boycott Israel and impose sanctions on it to deviate from this path, considering that “threats will not advance peace,” and that dialogue is the way to achieve that.

Referring to other fronts, Herzog said that Israel seeks peace with Syria and the opening of a new chapter in relations between the two countries, and also seeks peace in Gaza, considering that the residents of Gaza, like the residents of Israel, deserve a better future.

He explained that achieving peace in Gaza could only be achieved through the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution No. 2803, within the framework of the “Peace Council” launched by US President Donald Trump, stressing that this must begin with the immediate disarmament of Hamas in accordance with the resolution.
