In an interview on the “315 Meetings” program on Red TV, the head of the Medical Supplies Syndicate, Salma Assi, confirmed that the medical supplies sector is not currently facing a crisis, as long as the environment remains open for companies exporting to Lebanon, despite the various existing challenges and pressures, noting that the continued flow of imports contributes to maintaining market stability and meeting the needs of health institutions.

Regarding the spread of some companies that market illegal medical supplies at low cost, Assi stressed the danger of this phenomenon to the safety of patients and to the sector as a whole, considering that this type of unfair competition threatens the quality of medical services and requires strict measures to reduce it.

Assi explained that there is ongoing cooperation between the union and the competent official authorities to combat these illegal practices.

She also pointed out that there is continuous coordination with the Parliamentary Health Committee in this context, with the aim of strengthening oversight and implementation of relevant laws.

Assi revealed that she had submitted a draft law aimed at accounting for illegal profits in the medical supplies sector, and expressed her hope that the project would receive positive attention within the relevant parliamentary committees.

Assi concluded by emphasizing that protecting the sector requires serious cooperation between the various concerned parties, to ensure continuity of work according to transparent and fair standards, stressing that the primary goal remains protecting the Lebanese patient and providing safe, high-quality medical supplies.
