Prime Minister Nawaf Salam received the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, on a protocol visit.

After the meeting, Al-Mashat pointed out the importance of the role played by the Lebanese government at this delicate stage, and the responsibility it bears in promoting stability and responding to the urgent economic, social and humanitarian needs of citizens.

She said that Beirut’s historic embrace of ESCWA enabled it to fulfill its mission in the service of economic and social development.

She emphasized the intersection of the current government’s vision with the ESCWA mission, which believes that development is achieved through building strong public institutions, evidence-based policies, and effective management.

Al-Mashat stressed the need to continue close cooperation in a way that serves the priorities of Lebanon and its people, supports the building of a capable and effective state, and enhances Lebanon’s historical role as a bridge for dialogue, openness and joint regional action.
