The German government is working to establish an AI Safety Institute with the aim of better assessing the opportunities and risks associated with advanced AI models.
In a related context, the National Security Council in Germany approved the establishment of this new body, which is scheduled to gather German expertise related to the capabilities of artificial intelligence systems and their potential risks.
The institute is also expected to work more closely with similar bodies abroad, and push for the establishment of common international standards for the use of artificial intelligence.
Many countries have already established such institutes, and in Germany, the Federal Office for Information Security has so far undertaken some tasks in this field.
