Major General Jamil Al-Sayyid commented on the news circulating about the United States and Iran approaching the signing of a memorandum of understanding to end the war on various fronts, wondering about Lebanon’s position in any future negotiating path with Israel.

Al-Sayyed said, in a post on the “X” platform: “The latest news tonight: America and Iran will sign a memorandum of understanding to end the war on various fronts as a prelude to agreeing on the various outstanding items.”

He added, wondering: “If that understanding actually takes place, while Lebanon is invited to negotiate directly with Israel alone and stripped of all the cards of power, is it in Lebanon’s interest to rush into negotiations in order to be alone in it, or is it in its interest to slow down in a way that allows it to benefit from the new circumstances in the region?”

He continued: “Does the Lebanese authority have the freedom to decide in this regard, or will it remain hostage to external instructions to accelerate direct negotiations despite its current weak position?”
