The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported that Israel has set a two-week deadline to reach an agreement with the Lebanese government, indicating the possibility of resuming fighting after the expiration of this deadline if an agreement is not reached.
This development comes in light of a continuing field escalation on the southern front, where the Israeli army has intensified its air and ground operations, in parallel with carrying out large-scale bombings targeting infrastructure deep in the south, including blowing up a tunnel in the town of Qantara using large quantities of explosives.
These developments were also accompanied by repeated Israeli warnings and an increase in the intensity of political and military statements, especially by Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, who announced the expansion of operations until what is known as the “yellow line.”
Setting a time limit to reach an agreement reflects an escalation in political and military pressure, amid the absence of clear indications of an imminent calm, which raises fears that the confrontations will return to a higher frequency if the efforts fail.
