Violent Israeli raids targeting sites and missile platforms belonging to "Hezbollah"

The Israeli army announced on Sunday that it had carried out a series of air strikes and artillery shelling, targeting what it described as “missile launching cells and military infrastructure” belonging to Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

The army stated in a statement that these attacks targeted sites located north of the contact line, and indicated that the targets included “rocket launching cells that worked to push firing plans towards the Israeli forces,” in addition to “a loaded launch pad ready for launch, a weapons depot, and military buildings.”

The statement also added that the operations also targeted “people who were spotted inside a military building,” and another person “who was on a motorcycle,” stressing that these strikes were carried out by air and with artillery.

The Israeli army confirmed that it “will continue to act resolutely against the threats directed at the citizens of Israel and its forces,” “in accordance with the directives of the political level.”

These strikes come in light of the ongoing field escalation on the southern front, where for weeks the Lebanese-Israeli border strip has witnessed an intense exchange of fire between the Israeli army and Hezbollah, amid repeated violations of the ceasefire.

Recent days have witnessed a noticeable escalation in the pace of operations, as confrontations have shifted from limited strikes to broader targeting that includes infrastructure and military sites, coinciding with the launching of missiles and targeting military gatherings.

These developments coincide with ongoing Israeli raids on villages in southern Lebanon, resulting in injuries and the displacement of a number of residents, while Hezbollah confirms that its operations come in response to these attacks.

This escalation reflects the interconnectedness of the military and political tracks, as field operations are used as a pressure tool in broader negotiations to impose conditions on the ground, in light of the faltering international efforts aimed at achieving a sustainable calm.

With the continued intense flight of military aircraft and drones, and the readiness of forces on both sides of the border, fears are increasing that the situation will slide into a broader confrontation, especially with the expansion of the scope of targets and the multiplicity of their axes.

The southern front remains a highly tense area in the region, where regional calculations overlap with the situation on the ground, making any escalation have the potential to rapidly deteriorate towards more dangerous levels.
