A large-scale cyber attack targeting 100 million Mac devices

Security authorities issued warnings about a new hacking campaign targeting Mac users, as attackers were able to use trusted and officially signed applications to spread malware. This attack threatens millions of users despite the presence of advanced protection systems.

Recent security reports revealed the existence of a serious vulnerability that exposed more than 100 million Mac users to danger, after hackers were able to exploit trusted and officially approved applications to pass malicious programs without being detected by security systems. This attack is considered one of the most dangerous modern methods that have targeted the “macOS” operating system in the recent period.

According to reports, the attack relies on a complex mechanism that includes hacking developers’ accounts and stealing their digital signature keys. Once attackers have these keys, they can repackage the malware inside applications that appear official and trustworthy.

In this way, Apple’s “Gatekeeper” protection system is deceived, as malicious applications pass as if they are safe and approved by the original developers, allowing them to access users’ devices without raising any suspicions. (Erm News)
