Al-Bassat: Consumer protection is a top priority, and there is an emphasis on oversight

The Consumer Protection Directorate of the Ministry of Economy and Trade issued its weekly report, which included the following:

– Since the beginning of the war – from March 1 to April 10:

2,520 field inspection visits were carried out.
It wrote 130 arrest reports and referred 142 reports to the competent judiciary.
It responded to 176 complaints.

Since the beginning of the year – from January 1 to April 10:

5,624 field inspection visits were carried out.
It wrote 276 arrest reports and referred 440 reports to the judiciary.
It responded to 371 complaints.

In the week of 6 until April 10:

The Consumer Protection Directorate responded to 45 complaints and carried out 247 investigations, resulting in 29 arrests.

The Directorate has confirmed the continued intensification of its monitoring rounds since the beginning of the current war, in implementation of the circular of the Minister of Economy and Trade, Dr. Amer Al-Bassat, in which he called for stricter censorship (issued on 3/3/2026).

The directorate added that Ministry of Economy observers are present in all regions, and that tightening supervision is a basis for fighting exploitation and inflation.
