
With the beginning of the spring season and Lebanon witnessing weather fluctuations, Muhammad Kanj, head of the Estimates Department at the Meteorological Authority, in an interview with, gave a detailed explanation of the weather conditions expected in the coming days. He pointed out that the weather will be cold and volatile until the end of the week, before the temperature begins to rise gradually.
King explained that the weather this week will be volatile in a spring-like nature, as temperatures will be lower than normal for this time of year, especially in mountainous areas where they will drop by about four degrees. On the coast, the temperature will be two to four degrees below average. The minimum temperatures in the highlands will reach between 6 and 7 degrees, which increases the feeling of coldness, and this situation will continue until Saturday.
Regarding rain, he indicated that the period from today until Wednesday will witness chances of light to scattered rain, particularly concentrated in the northern regions, and may be heavy at times, accompanied by lightning and thunder. Snow is also expected to fall at altitudes ranging between 1,900 and 2,000 metres.
He added that Wednesday will witness relative and temporary stability in weather conditions, before the weather returns to volatility again, as conditions will become ripe for rainfall in the southern regions starting in the afternoon. As for Thursday, Lebanon will be affected by a depression that will lead to cloudy weather with scattered rain that may intensify at times, and the effect of this depression will continue until Friday or Saturday morning.
King confirmed that weather conditions will stabilize starting Saturday, and that temperatures will begin to rise gradually starting Sunday.
In a related context, he explained that Lebanon is approaching the end of the rainy season, noting that the amounts of rain in the northern regions exceeded the annual average, reaching about 840 mm, compared to 492 mm last year, while the general annual average is about 825 mm, which is considered a positive indicator for this season, despite the limited reliance on rain during the coming period.
