On Thursday, the Moroccan Football Federation issued an official statement categorically denying the rumors circulating about the appointment of a new coach for the senior national team to succeed Walid Regragui. The federation confirmed that it will inform public opinion of any developments related to the national team in a timely manner, “as is usual.”
This denial came in response to media reports that talked about the possibility of Mohamed Wehbe, coach of the Moroccan U-20 national team and winner of the World Cup with him in Chile, taking over the task of coaching the first team. Reports also stated that “Regragui” may want to resign after three years he spent at the helm of the technical staff, due to the team’s loss of the African Cup of Nations title organized by Morocco, following the defeat in the final match against Senegal.
It should be noted that the Moroccan Federation had denied last Tuesday the resignation of “Regragui”, who has been coaching the national team since August 2022 and led it to fourth place in the Qatar World Cup 2022. (Al Jazeera)
