North Korea strongly rejected US accusations that it was responsible for a cyber attack targeting the Binance cryptocurrency trading platform, which resulted in the seizure of digital assets estimated at approximately $6.3 billion.
In a statement carried by the official North Korean Central News Agency on Tuesday, Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, described these accusations as a “dangerous political provocation” and a “malicious attempt” aimed at undermining her country’s reputation before international public opinion.
Last Saturday, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) pointed the finger at North Korean hackers belonging to the “Trader Tritter” group, an approach that was supported by the “TRM Labs” company, which specializes in analyzing “Blockchain” technology.
The analysis company explained that the perpetrators were able to transfer most of the stolen assets, worth $6.3 billion, within just 20 minutes, in a proactive step to prevent them from being frozen.
It is noteworthy that this attack is the largest theft witnessed by cryptocurrency trading platforms in history, far exceeding the previous record recorded in 2025, when the “Bybit” platform was subjected to a hack during which digital assets worth about $1.5 billion were withdrawn, which was also attributed at the time to the same North Korean hacking group.
