Anthropic, the global leader in the field of artificial intelligence, announced on Monday a huge jump in its quarterly revenues of more than 1,100 percent, coinciding with its preparations to offer its shares for an initial public offering on Wall Street this month, according to Agence France-Presse.
The company is expected to be listed on the stock exchange as soon as next week, amid mounting concern among investors about the huge amount of money being pumped into the artificial intelligence sector.
Financial data showed that the company’s revenues amounted to $17 billion during the third quarter, compared to only $1.4 billion in the same period last year.
In an amended statement issued by the company, whose first listing on the stock market is a decisive indicator of the extent of the continued spending boom supporting the American economy, Anthropic’s net losses amounted to about $23.3 billion in the period between July and September. The company explained that the largest portion of these losses resulted from non-cash accounting fees related to its high market valuation.
The same statement also revealed the company’s commitment to spending about $895 billion, most of which was allocated to enhancing computing capacity, with a large portion of it to be spent during the next five years.
The company returned to recording operating losses amounting to $567 million during the third quarter, as a result of incurring high costs to obtain computing capabilities in the short term.
The initial public offering is expected to represent a major test of the market’s confidence in the continuation of the artificial intelligence boom, especially with the expansion of the base of potential investors, as this step will provide small investors the first opportunity to buy shares directly in a giant company specializing in this sector.
