The secret of a complete power outage

The Electricité du Liban explained that the general power outage that occurred yesterday, October 28, 2026, and resulted in the interruption of service to Rafic Hariri International Airport, resulted from a malfunction in the communications systems of the telephone exchanges. She pointed out that these exchanges feed the newly created temporary center at the main transfer station in Jamhour, from which the network is currently managed since the complete destruction of the National Control Center (NCC) as a result of the Beirut Port explosion on August 4, 2020. The cessation of telephone communications as a result of this malfunction led to a delay in the process of returning the network to service.

The corporation confirmed that the fault had been remedied, and the electrical supply had returned to normal since last night, bringing the situation back to its usual course.

At the conclusion of its statement, the Electricité du Liban stressed that it will continue to make maximum efforts to ensure the minimum stability of the electrical network, amid the limited production capacity, capabilities and available resources, in order to deal with any emergency malfunctions as quickly as possible, in light of the global energy crisis, and with the aim of securing electrical power as much as possible for citizens and basic public facilities, most notably the Rafic Hariri International Airport.
