China injected two billion dollars to launch the largest hybrid coal and wind energy project

Henan Yuneng Holdings, listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, announced the intention of one of its subsidiaries to implement an integrated energy project in Nan Province, central China, combining coal-fired electricity generation with renewable energy, with total investments amounting to 13.93 billion Chinese yuan, equivalent to about two billion US dollars.

The engineering design of the project depends on the coal units playing a key role in balancing the electricity network and adjusting production rates, ensuring that intermittent wind energy is absorbed with high efficiency. The company explained in an official disclosure submitted to the stock exchange on Sunday that this step comes in line with the directives of the National Energy Administration of China for the year 2026, which aim to promote the integration of coal plants with renewable energy projects.

According to the disclosure details, the total cost of the part of the coal station, with a capacity of 2,000 megawatts, is about 8.44 billion yuan, while the cost of the part for the wind farms, with a capacity of 1,200 megawatts, is estimated at about 5.49 billion yuan. The project includes in its infrastructure a railway line dedicated to transporting coal, in addition to advanced facilities to remove sulfur, nitrogen and dust to ensure environmental standards.
