Field and diplomatic indicators are increasing about the possibility of a US military strike against Iran during the next few days. In this context, a report by journalist Eli Leon in the Israeli newspaper “Maariv”, based on the Iraqi Kurdish channel “Channel 8” and a political source close to the “coordination framework”, revealed that the American administration informed the Iraqi Prime Minister, whom the report referred to as Ali Faleh al-Zaidi, of the existence of a plan to carry out an imminent attack against Iran.
For his part, the Iraqi Prime Minister conveyed the content of the American message to the leaders of the “Coordination Framework” coalition supporting the government, warning them that any intervention by Iraqi armed factions in the potential confrontation will be met with strict government measures in accordance with the law.
In the same context, “The Cradle” website confirmed these data, stating that the White House informed Baghdad of its intention to carry out strikes inside Iranian territory soon. According to Iraqi officials quoted by the site, Washington not only informed the Iraqi side of the operation, but also issued a strong warning of the consequences of any Iraqi participation, stressing that intervention of this kind may have serious repercussions on the stability of the country and its political system. However, there has not yet been any official confirmation from the US administration regarding a final decision or setting an exact date for the operation.
On the Israeli level, military correspondent Avi Ashkenazi revealed that the prevailing estimates within the security establishment do not currently require launching a preemptive attack against Iran, or opening new fronts in Lebanon, Syria, and the Gaza Strip. He explained that the Israeli army is working to reduce regional tension, stressing in messages through various channels that Tel Aviv is on high alert to respond to any attack, but it is not seeking to initiate a military confrontation at the present time.
On the other hand, political correspondent Anna Persky quoted senior Israeli officials as having intelligence information indicating that Iran and parties allied with it are considering carrying out operations against Israel ahead of the elections, with the aim of destabilizing the Israelis’ sense of security and influencing their results. These officials rejected the leaks circulating, stressing that their intelligence picture is completely different.
The Israeli officials concluded by saying: “We do not care what this or that party leaks. The truth is different. The question that concerns us is whether the enemy will decide to attack or not, and we know that they are studying this possibility, and the statements of the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense aim to deter them.” Between the reports of the imminent American strike and the warnings directed at Baghdad, attention remains directed towards the expected decisions of Washington, amid Israeli efforts to avoid a widespread escalation, while being fully prepared to deal with any possible Iranian attack.
