Continuing UAE investigations revealed that the Omani co-pilot, Hammam Al Hammami, began planning to attack a Flydubai plane since 2017 during his stay in Australia, with the aim of shooting it down on the passenger building at Ben Gurion Airport in an attack that mimics the September 11 attacks.
In this context, a report prepared by journalist Roi Kayes for the Israeli Broadcasting Authority “Kan” quoted a source close to the Emirati authorities as confirming that Al-Hammami will face a “very severe and not a simple” punishment.
These data came as part of the third update by the UAE Attorney General, which showed that the accused took advantage of his work on two previous trips to Israel to collect accurate intelligence information, including the flight path and the desired target. An unofficial Emirati source familiar with the authorities’ directions explained to Kan that the repeated publication of investigation developments reflects the UAE’s keenness to consolidate the principles of transparency, justice, and the rule of law.
On the other hand, Al-Hammami claimed during his interrogation that he moved alone without any partners, at a time when the UAE security services maintain the character of an open investigation to verify the possibility of the presence of collaborators with him.
At the level of the operating authorities, the UAE authorities admitted that there was a failure to monitor the religious and ideological extremism of the co-pilot, despite his full fulfillment of all professional and security standards approved by Flydubai upon his appointment. Between the defendant’s confessions of individualism and the lack of previous security oversight, the competent authorities continue their investigations to clarify all the circumstances surrounding the plan.
