Barcelona strengthened its lead in the Spanish Football League, after defeating its guest Getafe by three clean goals, in the match that was held on Saturday in the eighth round of the competition.
Barcelona’s coach, Hansi Flick, resorted to making adjustments to his starting lineup, preferring to rest the duo Pedri and Pau Cobarci, while fielding Jules Kounde at right-back and Eric Garcia at the heart of defence.
The Catalan team did not delay in scoring, as they opened the scoring early after only two minutes through Anthony Gordon, who shot a ball that changed direction before landing in the goal. As the course of the game heated up and absolute control was imposed, Gabriel Jesus added the second goal in the 30th minute with a perfect shot from inside the penalty area.
With the start of the second half, coach Flick made substitutions by bringing in Pedri, Fermin Lopez, and Marc Bernal, so defender Jules Kounde increased his team’s lead by scoring the third goal in the 73rd minute, thus clinching the three points of the match.
The 81st minute of the match witnessed the appearance of young striker Hamza Abdel Karim as a substitute for the scorer of the second goal, Gabriel Jesus, in his second official appearance with the first team, after his first appearance as a substitute also against Rayo Vallecano.
With this result, Barcelona raised its score to 24 points, occupying the top spot in the standings, while Getafe’s score stopped at 8 points, occupying thirteenth place in the competition table.
