An Israeli officer was killed when a military vehicle overturned near the Litani, and an urgent investigation was opened

An Israeli officer was killed and three soldiers were slightly injured, on Thursday, as a result of a Humvee military vehicle overturning while it was moving in the Litani River area in southern Lebanon, while two other soldiers were injured in a separate incident, according to what the Israeli army and Hebrew media announced.

The army explained that the dead officer was Captain Eliav Haim Tsaplamos (21 years old) from the city of Haifa, and he was serving as an officer in the 603rd Combat Engineering Battalion of the 7th Armored Brigade (36th Division), noting that he was promoted to the rank of captain after his death.

According to the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, the coup occurred during the afternoon hours of Thursday. Hebrew Channel 13 reported that the three injured people were transferred to Rambam Hospital in Haifa to receive treatment, after their families were officially informed of the incident.

According to reports published by the “Walla” news website and prepared by journalists Amir Bouhbut and Yoav Eitiel, the military vehicle overturned while it was traveling on a paved road in the heights of the Litani area, and the soldiers inside it were wearing helmets and protective vests, while the reasons that led to the loss of control of the vehicle and its overturn have not yet been resolved.

The website indicated that the military police opened an extensive investigation, in parallel with a field investigation supervised by the commander of the 36th Division, to determine the circumstances of the incident and the sequence of events. The website quoted a reserve officer in the Northern Command as confirming that the investigations will address safety standards and review the relevant instructions in force.

The officer explained that some of the movement roads in the area were newly constructed by the Israeli army and the Ministry of Defense, while old and damaged roads crossed by heavy engineering vehicles are also being used, stressing at the same time that the direct link between the condition of the road and the overturn of the vehicle has not yet been proven.

In a related context, a separate incident occurred earlier on Thursday inside Lebanese territory, resulting in two Israeli soldiers being slightly injured. According to Channel 12 and Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, preliminary investigations showed the possibility that the injuries occurred as a result of improper use of ammunition, while the circumstances of the incident are still under examination and investigation.

The media reports did not specify the exact coordinates or the name of the town that witnessed the vehicle’s coup incident, nor did any of the sources indicate that the incident was linked to any clash or attack launched by “Hezbollah,” so the official story was limited to considering it an accidental coup incident that occurred during military activity, awaiting the results of the ongoing investigations.
